About This Role
We are seeking a skilled HDD Directional Drill Operator / Crew Foreman to lead and execute underground directional drilling projects. This role requires a strong understanding of heavy equipment operation, construction site management, and technical drilling procedures.
The ideal candidate will have experience in construction, excavation, and operating various heavy machinery, including excavators, backhoes, water trucks, and dump trucks. As a Crew Foreman, you will oversee daily operations, ensure safety compliance, and coordinate team activities to deliver quality results efficiently.
Duties
- Operate horizontal directional drilling equipment with precision and adherence to project specifications
- Lead and supervise drilling crews, assigning tasks and ensuring compliance with on-site safety protocols
- Manage the operation of heavy machinery such as excavators, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, and dump trucks
- Conduct routine maintenance checks on Vermeer equipment to ensure optimal performance
- Oversee construction activities including drilling, locating, potholing, vault setting, restoration and other related tasks
- Coordinate with company and client managers to plan daily work schedules and resource allocation
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and environmental standards
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues promptly to minimize downtime
- Maintain detailed records of project progress and equipment usage
Qualifications
- Proven experience in horizontal directional drilling and heavy equipment operation
- Mechanical knowledge of construction machinery (excavators, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, dump trucks, tankers) including fuel and hydraulic systems
- Valid CDL (preferred, not required)
- Strong leadership skills with crew foreman/supervisor experience
- Knowledge of Vermeer equipment highly desirable
- Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Work closely with locator and team to determine bore paths and avoid underground utilities
- Physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Familiarity with traffic control, OSHA, MDOT, and company safety protocols
- FTTH operations experience is a plus
